With brick and mortar stores in Philadelphia and New York United By Blue was founded out of a need to preserve where people play. For every product sold, UBB removes one pound of trash from the oceans and waterways through company‐organized cleanups. UBB clothing and accessories are thoughtfully made with organic and recycled materials and designed to last for years of outdoor and everyday use. 1

As a successful outdoor brand United by Blue can do serious conservation work. This means everyone at UBB is rolling up their sleeves and removing plastic bottles, styrofoam, tires, old appliances, you name it from creeks, rivers, beaches, and streams. We organize and host cleanups to make a measurable impact on the most pressing of environmental problems: ocean trash and plastics pollution. 2

UBB is part of an awesome group of for-profit companies that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. UBB decided to go for the B-Corp certification for two reasons: The first was to set a standard of excellence in the product they deliver to their customers. The second was to become a member of a supportive community of businesses that have similar economic, social, and environmental aspirations. 3

United By Blue believes that products designed for enjoying the outdoors should also be kind to the outdoors. UBB put a lot of thought into the materials that make up each piece and always opt for textiles that keep our oceans, air and soil a little cleaner.4

The new Bison collection from United By Blue is the perfect ethos of how UBB operates and how the American Bison survives.

The fiber that makes up the American bison’s thick coat includes hollow outer guard hairs that are lightweight, compactable, and resilient — the very reason the bison population has withstood countless harsh winters. UBB harnessed the fiber’s natural capacity for warmth to craft a high-loft, antimicrobial insulation that regulates temperature, wicks away moisture, and mimics the bison’s ability to thrive in the cold.5  Check out the new Bison Beanie made by us at Icebox knitting!

Despite bison fiber’s impressive insulation benefits, it’s an underused and often discarded byproduct of the ranching industry. UBBs proprietary  B100™ Fill is their attempt to change that. UBB created their our own supply chain to source, sort, and clean bison fiber, which is then blended with recycled polyester to create a lab-tested insulation with lightweight baffles to trap in warmth.

A specialized blend of sustainably sourced bison fiber and recycled polyester that boasts antimicrobial, temperature-regulating, and moisture-wicking properties. Crafted using the bison’s longer, hollow guard hairs, which are lightweight and naturally protect from the elements.7
